Luminosity: Stained Glass Series
I call this the “Stained Glass” series because I used bright solid
colors and simple shapes to create manifestations of light and
energy. I start by pouring matt black gesso onto the canvas
and letting it flow, creating shapes by tilting the canvas to direct
the paint flow. When the gesso is dry I apply the colors in
the negative (white) areas, letting my instinct dictate color
placement. It's a somewhat random process, based on intuition,
with the choice and location of each color determined by how it relates to adjacent colors. The paintings mimic the elegance of nature in the abstract, and are imbued with a luminous quality akin to stained glass Tiffany lampshades.

Stain glass series

The paintings are purely visual experiences, which is why I refrained from using recognizable images. I want each painting to possess a sense of mystery and wonder, something traditional stain glass art obfuscate with recognizable imagery. Double click the images to enlarge them.
