| Luminosity: "Stained Glass" Series I named this series Stained Glass Impressions. These paintings explores how shapes and colors can be manifestations of light and energy. I begin by pouring black gesso onto a canvas to create shapes, tilting the canvas to direct the flow of paint. Once the gesso is dry I introduce color to the negative (white) areas, with instinct dictating each color placement. It's a somewhat random process; choice and placement of each color, as it relates to adjacent colors, being based on my intuition. The paintings mimic the abstract elegance of nature but with the luminous quality of stained glass windows or Tiffany lampshades.
The paintings are intended to be purely visual experiences, which is why I refrained from using recognizable images. I want the paintings to possess a sense of mystery and wonder, something traditional stain glass often obfuscates with their recognizable imagery. | | |
