Passion and Emotion: A Series
My contention is that what we see, hear and feel is not an accurate representation of the world around us; rather our feelings are illusions, shaped by our human evolution.

In a series of symbolic cartoons I explore the intimate relationship between private conscious feelings and biological survival, often based on negative emotions. My belief is that feelings can energize the soul, but excessive, uncontrolled feelings can lead to the seven deadly sins; pride, anger, lust, gluttony, greed and sloth.

In
Fear and Anger I depict raw anger directed at a fearful recipient. The anger is derived from a misguided sense of justice, a feeling of righteousness that demands any opposition be punished. The painting combines both anger and fear - with the anger bordering on hatred.

Lust portrays a scenario of strong physical sexual desire on the part of the dominant figure. Lacking is any suggestion of associated feelings of love or affection. The recipient, a non-participant, is seen as an emotional cipher.

The seven painting series (not all seen here) represent a commentary on how our emotions can lead us into the seven deadly sins.
